UTEC 25th Anniversary Logo Suite

UTEC is a Lowell, MA-based non-profit focused on creating an environment where young people who have been affected by violence and poverty can nurture their ambition and have economic success. They were seeking a 25th Anniversary logo and wanted to explore a simple revision to their 20th-anniversary logo, as well as a new, innovative direction. After becoming familiar with their brand, I decided to utilize a graffiti style. UTEC uses graffiti to decorate throughout their physical spaces in MA, and showcases creativity through their MADD Love marketplace selling handmade goods, so an artistic approach was the perfect canvas for this logo refresh. I created a comprehensive logo suite that was implemented across various forms of merchandise, including branding on their MADD Love marketplace woodwork.

Role: graphic designer

Project Type: logo design

Process

The goal of the new logo was an artistic take on their 20th-anniversary logo. They were interested in exploring a simpler option, so I developed several variations reminiscent of the original design. After researching their organization, I knew I wanted to incorporate a graffiti-inspired theme. I experimented with different styles, including handwritten elements and spray paint textures. Following the first phase, they were particularly drawn to the spray paint texture. In the second phase, I focused on refining the typography layout to enhance the overall impact of the logo.
